3 Humors Poetry Reading August 2009

Dublin’s “Three Humors” Poetry Event Sunday, August 23, 2009 – 2 p.m.- 4 p.m. Old St. Raymond's Church, 6600 Donlon Way, Dublin, California Admission $5 at the door (Free to students with I.D.) Dublin’s Poet Laureate Ronnie Holland invites you to be amazed and amused by a trio of poets, enjoy a short break with light refreshments, then open mike (poems to be one page and 40 lines or less). End summer with a smile! Featured Poets Deborah Fruchey (aka Debralee Pagan) was born in Los Angeles and raised in the SF Bay Area. Her first novel, The Unwilling Heiress, was published at the age of 26, winning an award from the American Library Association. Deborah has outlived or outgrown many “isms.” Her goals in life are another publishing contract, a degree in English, and a flat stomach. She also hopes eventually to be useful in making mental illness a less onerous and frightening condition. http://www.lafruche.net/ Mel C. Thompson has been forcing his poetry onto reluctant audiences and publishers since 1974 when he first got into his high school poetry magazine by blackmailing the student editors. Since that time, radio personalities, television journalists and even major politicians have all agreed to pretend to be amazed at his writing skill. His ultimate goal as a spoken word artist and poet is to become so well known that people are afraid to admit they dislike his work. http://www.melcthompson.zoomshare.com/ Lee Rossi is organizing a campaign to install a 'Tomb of the Unknown Poet’ in Westminster Abbey. This memorial would honor "All Who've Labored in Poetry's Vineyards Without Eating Any of Her Grapes," poetry's migrant farm workers, if you will. Known to only a handful of readers, he is offering his own body to rest there until someone even more obscure comes along. Poetry is the river that flows through his nights. http://home.earthlink.net/~pero/lee-rossi.html Complimentary Refreshments For more information, call 556-4500 or visit the City of Dublin Poet Laureate pages at www.ci.dublin.ca.us (listed under Recreation-Cultural Arts) or contact Ronnie at poetlaureate@ci.dublin.ca.us.
